Day Trips from Bad Woerishofen: Skyline Park, Allgaeu & Neuschwanstein
Bad Woerishofen is famous for its Kneipp cures and peaceful green parks — but its location in the heart of the Allgaeu makes it an excellent base for exploring southern Bavaria. Within an hour or two, you can reach fairy-tale castles, alpine lakes, charming old towns, and one of Germany's best theme parks. Here is what to see and how to get there.
Getting to Bad Woerishofen
By train: From Munich Central Station (München Hauptbahnhof), take the direct regional train towards Mindelheim or Buchloe and change at Kaufbeuren or Türkheim depending on the service. The total journey takes around 1.5 hours. Trains run frequently throughout the day, and the station is a short walk from the town centre.
By car: From Munich, take the A96 motorway towards Lindau and exit at Türkheim or Bad Woerishofen. The drive takes about 70 to 80 minutes depending on traffic. Parking in Bad Woerishofen itself is easy and mostly free.
Skyline Park — About 10 Minutes by Car
If you are travelling with children or simply love a good thrill, Skyline Park is unmissable. One of Bavaria's largest theme parks, it sits just outside the town of Bad Woerishofen near Eggenthal and is reachable in under ten minutes by car.
The park offers roller coasters, water rides, and family attractions spread across a large, well-maintained site. It opens seasonally from spring through autumn. Arriving early means shorter queues and more time to enjoy the rides. Combined with a morning of Kneipp wellness at your hotel, it makes for an easy and varied day.
Swimming in the Allgaeu Lakes
The Allgaeu region is dotted with clear lakes that are ideal for swimming in summer. The Forgensee near Füssen and the Hopfensee are both around 60 to 70 minutes by car and offer sandy shores, paddleboard rentals, and lakeside cafes. Closer to Bad Woerishofen, the Auerwaldsee is a quieter option popular with locals.
These lakes are at their best from June to early September when water temperatures are comfortable for swimming. The surrounding scenery — rolling hills, farmhouses, distant Alpine peaks — makes even a simple picnic by the water feel special.
Memmingen Old Town — About 30 Minutes by Car
The medieval town of Memmingen is one of the region's hidden gems. Its old town is compact and walkable, with well-preserved half-timbered buildings, the striking Martinskirche, and a lively market square. The Stadtbach, a network of small streams running through the streets, gives the town a distinctive character.
Memmingen is easy to reach by car (around 30 minutes via the B18) or by train with one change. Allow two to three hours to wander the old town and stop for coffee or lunch at one of the many cafes around the Marktplatz.
Neuschwanstein Castle — About 60 Minutes by Car
No trip to southern Bavaria is complete without seeing Neuschwanstein, the iconic 19th-century castle that inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty. From Bad Woerishofen, the drive takes around 60 minutes via Kaufbeuren and Füssen.
Book tickets online in advance — the castle is extremely popular in summer and walk-up queues can be long. The hike up from the village of Hohenschwangau takes about 30 minutes and rewards you with breathtaking views over the valley and the nearby Alpsee.
Kaufbeuren — About 25 Minutes by Car
Kaufbeuren is a compact and often-overlooked Allgaeu town with a well-preserved medieval centre, a circular town wall, and the famous Tänzelfest historical festival held every summer. It is easy to reach by train from Bad Woerishofen and makes for a relaxed half-day outing.
A Perfect Base for Wellness and Sightseeing
What makes Bad Woerishofen stand out as a base is the combination it offers: mornings of Kneipp baths, therapeutic walks, and spa treatments, followed by afternoons exploring the wider region. Whether you want the excitement of a theme park, the serenity of a mountain lake, or the grandeur of Neuschwanstein, everything is within comfortable reach. Pack comfortable shoes, a good map, and an appetite for both fresh air and Allgaeu cuisine.
